Been a while since I posted here, but how about a megathread for discussing the GamerGate controversy, games journalism and video game censorship!
A Brief Introduction
GamerGate is the gaming community's push-back against corruption and censorship in games journalism and the gaming industry. GamerGate is now approaching it's two year anniversary and still going strong. While the GamerGate discussion wages on across multiple forums and platforms, it's two main bases of operation are the Twitter hashtag and the KotakuInAction subreddit. Though not as a large as KotakuInAction, /v/ and GamerGateHQ also serve as major ports of call. While perhaps not a port of call, I hope we can have a civil and productive discussion on this ongoing controversy.
Shortly after it's creation, many games journalists and political extremists known as "social justice warriors" attacked GamerGate and claimed that it was "nothing but angry white men." In response to these allegations, NotYourShield was created showcasing the diversity of GamerGate supporters and giving a voice to the voiceless. Today one of GamerGate's main main operations is Operation Torrential Downpour, which raises awareness about and protests censorship in gaming. Lately Torrential Downpour's focus has been on translators changing games and stories from the author's original intent to insert their own political agendas or out of fear of backlash. Wherever censorship and corruption lie, GamerGate seeks it out and exposes it.
